Abraham Lincoln High School is proud to celebrate the linguistic and academic achievements of 44 students who are “Exiting with Excellence” from Multilingual Education Services on Wednesday, May 14th. This milestone honors students who have reached English language proficiency — a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and bilingual brilliance.
These students represent the rich cultural and linguistic diversity that defines the Lincoln community. Many have not only mastered English but have also continued to grow in their native languages. Students are on track to graduate with the DPS Seal of Biliteracy, a nationally recognized award earned by 11th or 12th-grade students., and others are ambitiously pursuing a Minor in Spanish — all before earning their high school diplomas.
Lincoln is a Transitional Native Language Instruction (TNLI) school serving Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs). As part of Denver Public Schools, the school provides students with high-level academic opportunities, including high school coursework in Spanish that supports native language development alongside English proficiency.
“Students at Lincoln have unique stories behind their journey. Some have benefited from DPS MLL services since Kindergarten, while others have demonstrated remarkable growth during their high school years,” said Dr. Ortiz. “This recognition is deeply meaningful — not only to the students, but also to their families and communities.”
“Our students who will ‘Exit with Excellence’ this spring exemplify the dedication, intelligence, and perseverance of our Lincoln Lancers! We couldn’t be more proud of how our students have demonstrated growth and proficiency in their second language and are so excited to see them continue to develop both languages!” said Assistant Principal Kathy Fox.
District-wide, Denver Public Schools (DPS) serves more than 35,000 Multilingual Learners whose home languages span over 200 languages. While Spanish is the most common, DPS students also bring languages like Arabic, Amharic, Vietnamese, Somali, French, Nepali, Tigrigna, Mandarin, and Russian into classrooms across the city — enriching the district’s cultural and linguistic landscape.
“These students are not only mastering English but also embracing their cultural identities, which strengthens our entire school community. Their success is a testament to their hard work and our commitment to multilingual education,” said Principal Bravo.
